11 March 2025, Lebanon, Hekr El Dahri: Clothes are hung in a hallway of local school hosting Syrian Alawite refugees after crossing the al-Nahr al-Kabir river into the Lebanese village of Hekr El Dahri, fleeing violence in the Syrian coastal provinces of Latakia and Tartus. Thousands of Syrians, mainly Alawites, have crossed into Lebanon from areas considered strongholds of Syria's ousted former President Bashar al-Assad, after hundreds of civilians were killed in the fighting between government forces and insurgents loyal to the deposed president in the war-torn country's deadliest violence in months.
